ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for a breach of Instructure Canvas affecting approximately 275 million records from 8,809 schools. The breach was detected April 29, 2026 and disclosed May 1, 2026. Attackers exploited the Free-For-Teacher program to gain access. A secondary breach involved defacement of Canvas login pages at multiple schools on May 7, 2026. Instructure reached an agreement with ShinyHunters on May 11 to prevent public data release.
