Anthropic disclosed a cyberespionage operation by Russian state-nexus group Midnight Blizzard that abused Claude AI to automate malware evasion testing. Between December 2025 and August 2026, the group used Claude to monitor how its malware bypassed security products, with AI agents automatically modifying and redeploying detected tools. Anthropic disrupted the campaign and noted that criminal groups are increasingly targeting AI vendor infrastructure.
